Kids these days have it so easy. THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE TO GO TO THE LIBRARY ANYMORE. They just walk outside, a drone flies up and drops off the books they need to read for the summer. Unbelievable.
In all seriousness though, the program being run in Christiansburg, Virginia by Wing and the Montgomery County Public School District is really creating a buzz in the drone world. Wing is the drone delivery company within Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
The program involves delivering books to students to prevent any more people going out and exposing themselves unnecessarily during the COVID-19 pandemic. The books can’t weigh more than 3lbs, but we imagine War and Peace isn’t on anyone’s summer reading list. The drones Wing is using can fly for 12 miles and reach speeds of almost 70mph. A lot of the citizens of Christiansburg probably don’t even realize this program is going on due to Wing already delivering other items in the area. They are all probably used to the sound, and in for a rude awakening if a swarm of bees makes it that way.
